St. Charles provides comprehensive youth & family assistance through a wide variety of programs and services, including:

Mentoring

St. Charles provides one-on-one mentoring services for youth ages 6 through 17 who could benefit from additional adult interaction and support. Participating youth are referred to the agency's mentors from a wide variety of sources. Irrespective of the referral source, our goal is to build skills and offer the positive reinforcement at-risk children need to thrive in their own home and community.

Safety Services

Our Safety Service Managers meet on a weekly basis with children, who are considered to be at risk of child abuse or neglect. Our managers assess each family's strengths and needs, and work with the family to coordinate services to ensure that each child is safe and his or her basic needs are met. The goal of the Safety Services program is to maintain children within the home, and to improve the parents' ability to meet the physical and emotional needs of their children.

First Time Juvenile Offender Program

Our agency coordinates such services as mentoring, tutoring, youth and family counseling, and AODA treatment for boys and girls ages 10 through 16 who have entered into a "Deferred Prosecution Agreement" and are at risk for entering the juvenile justice system on a more formal basis. Our goals are to assist children in avoiding further involvement with the juvenile justice system and enhance their success at school, in the community, and within the family.

Wraparound Care Coordination

St. Charles has served as a Care Coordination Agency since the inception of the Wraparound Milwaukee philosophy. We serve children who are ordered to participate by the juvenile justice system, have been diagnosed as being severely emotionally disturbed, and are at high risk for being placed outside their own homes. The Care Coordinator purchases supportive services based upon a plan developed jointly by staff, youth, their families, and other participating parties. Our goal is to maintain youth in the least restrictive environment, improve the functioning of the child and family, and assist them in building the networks of support necessary to manage their lives effectively after the program is no longer actively involved. The children and families have access to program staff 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Day Treatment

Our Medical Day Treatment program offers a daily combination of therapeutic and educational services for youth experiencing diagnosed emotional and behavioral problems. Our goal is to help participating youth develop the skills necessary to deal with their mental health issues and increase their ability to function successfully in school, at home, and in the community.

Education Center

St. Charles partners with Milwaukee Public Schools to provide a more structured environment for youth with special education needs. St. Charles and Milwaukee Public Schools staff work cooperatively with youth and their families to develop an individualized education plan, provide quality educational and treatment options, and monitor the progress made. Our goal is to help students develop positive educational and behavioral skills that will allow them to transition back into MPS community schools and succeed in that environment.

Intensive Day Treatment

In conjunction with Milwaukee County, St. Charles offers a network of services designed to help youth who have been adjudicated as delinquent and are having difficulties that would traditionally have resulted in an out-of-home placement. We work closely with youth and their families to develop an individualized plan that may include such assistance as weekly family and individual counseling, year-round educational and recreational programs, weekend monitoring and activities, and community support services. By providing such an integrated approach, our goal is to help youth succeed in remaining in their own homes and communities.

Residential Treatment

We provide 24-hour supervised residential treatment, including psychiatric assessment, medication management, alcohol and other drug abuse counseling, education, and group activities for a diverse population of youth. Our 7.5-acre campus provides a safe and nurturing environment for youth receiving residential treatment services.

Shelter Care - CHIPS/Delinquent

Our Shelter Care programs provide a safe and secure environment for youth awaiting placement through the juvenile justice, or social service, system. We admit youth 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with stays ranging from 24 hours to 60 days. While in our care, youth are exposed to a variety of recreational and educational experiences.
